A Consciously Curated Approach to Style, to Home, and to Life

Travel-Inspired Interiors to Give You a Serious Case of Wanderlust

June 10, 2017

Featured image: H&M. I like to think that all people fit into one of two categories: those who have “the Wanderlust”, and those who don’t. If you couldn’t tell from reading this blog, I sit firmly in the former camp. As a kid, I decorated my bedroom walls with cut-outs of National Geographic, ripping out calendar pictures of castles, proudly displaying maps on my walls. I knew I wanted to go places; I just didn’t know when, or how, I could.

Now, as an adult, one of the best feelings in the world is having the freedom and — mostly — finances to travel as and when I want. However, that sense of the mystique of travelling — the wanderlust, the sense of adventure, of unexplored places and luxurious hotels and escapes in the wild — hasn’t left. And like I was as a kid, I’m still drawn to home decor that fills me with that sense of excitement. This post is all about travel-inspired interiors, and how you can bring your sense of wanderlust into your own home.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this travel-inspired interiors trend picks up as the years progress. We live hectic, filled lives, burdened by emails and responsibilities and social media and sell sell sell. It’s a huge weight we all have to bear, just waking up in the morning and starting the day.

Travel represents many things to many people; but most of all, it harkens a feel of escapism. Of adventure, of something more. A newness that many find missing in the everyday. Our new millennial sensibilities of fulfilment, happiness and meaning — replacing the former generation’s focus on stable, steady and success — is seeing people change careers and lifestyles quicker than ever before. Myself included considering I quit my comfy corporate job to write to you lovely people.

For many of us, though, quitting it all and picking up a life of travel and adventure isn’t completely feasible. And with that ever-oppressive burden of an internet-age barreling down at us, our homes are our havens. And what better way to find escapism and adventure than through evoking these feelings through your home.

So, if you’re like the many of us wishing for adventure but finding it elusive, follow these design examples to bring a little escapism into your life. And who knows: travel-inspired interiors may be what ignites your inner craving for the Wanderlust.
