For one who relishes in all things Autumnal — crisp, cool weather, leaves, sweaters, pumpkin spice, yes I am that American basic — there’s just something about Spring. Flowers, sunshine, and the ease of feeling that hope is in the air. Perhaps this is a tad dramatic, it’s just April after all. But, particularly as we are in the middle of a global pandemic, that renewed hope of Spring is more welcome than ever.
However, while I may be singing Spring’s praises, in terms of Spring capsule wardrobe, I find this season tricky. Many other bloggers will have already published their Spring capsule wardrobe roundups already. I tend to wait until the season is in full force before thinking of mine. Namely, thanks to weather. March, for me, is just too early to be thinking about florals, for Spring, when the weather is grim, cold, and rainy. No thanks/ I’ll wait for April.
Secondly, I find this season tough because of living in San Francisco. We don’t really have seasons (weather is nearly identical, year round, except with a little more rain and cold in Winter — barely). But, mentally, I think in seasons. And, when I get excited for seasons, I want to shops for seasons.
This year — and probably similar to other years — I’ve been called to a cooler neutral palette, both soothing and comforting. Sandy beiges, creamy whites, and sun-bleached blues are big in my Spring capsule wardrobe plans. In terms of style, perhaps it’s because we’re in the middle of such bleak uncertainty, but my mind is drifting to bygone eras. Romantic frills, puffed sleeves, and white eyelet lace harken to a whimsical escape. In terms of materials, this is pretty standard in my wardrobe these days, no matter the season, as I’ve removed most non-natural fabrics from my wardrobe and focus mostly on linen, silk, and cotton.
Amidst all this whimsy, however, I’m desperate for a trench coat. I’m loving the look of a loose, flowing trenchcoat, like business but make it romantic. And since I’ve found the perfect black trousers (made from recycled coffee grounds!), I’ve been seeking inspiring ways to wear black trousers while looking street-style cool.
And finally, because of quarantine, this season I’m including loungewear in my Spring capsule wardrobe. To be honest, I wear loungewear frequently even when not stuck at home. So this change feels fitting.

The (Mostly) Sustainable Spring Capsule Wardrobe
ROW ONE //
STRAIGHT JEANS // AGOLDE LOOSE-FIT JEANS (MORE AFFORDABLE OPTION WITH ORGANIC COTTON*)
STRECH JEANS // MADEWELL CALI DEMI-BOOT JEANS IN FLEETWOOD WASH
LINEN JUMPSUIT // AND OTHER STORIES*
BLACK TROUSERS // LEZE THE LABEL ARABICA PANTS
Behold, the perfect black work pants. They fit like a dream, with so much stretch. They have a very on-trend minor crop-flare. And, best of all, they’re super sustainable: made with a recycled-coffee fabric (yes, you read that right), using waste at its best. I have the Regular Size M, and the fit is a perfect TTS.
BEIGE TROUSERS/JEANS // AND OTHER STORIES*
I honestly couldn’t decide whether to include a pair of white jeans here, or beige pants. So instead, you get both, as I think to achieve this Spring Capsule Wardrobe look, light, neutral colors of pants are key. So with that, I’d also recommend the Everlane pleated chinos*, Everlane Straight Leg Crop*, or the Khaite Wendell Wide Leg Jeans.
KNIT SKIRT // H&M (CONSCIOUS – RECYCLED POLYESTER)*
ROW TWO //
OVERSIZED TRENCHCOAT // ARITZIA LAWSON TRENCH COAT
I generally never shop at Aritzia, because I find their pieces to generally be oversized polyester garbage (sorry not sorry). However, their trench coats are another story: the vast majority made with sustainable lyocell, in colors and shapes that are timeless and well-made. The oversized, fluid shape of the Lawson caught my eye, and I am loving it thus far. Pair with light jeans and a white top for the ultimate Spring look.
CREAM LINEN BLAZER // ST. AGNI KOA DOUBLE-BREASTED BLAZER*
This is the blazer that started it all: the ultimate Spring piece that will make any outfit sharply tailored, yet feminine. If you couldn’t tell, I love this blazer — and, indeed, anything from sustainably-focused St. Agni. This, paired with the light jeans from the capsule and the fellow St. Agni mules, is just a dream.
OVERSIZED CARDIGAN // DOEN FAUNIA CARDIGAN
If I could be encapsulated as a brand (or, indeed, into a brand), it would be Doen. The Faunia cardigan is is that ideal shade of beige-brown-taupe-fawn that suits this Spring palette, paired with creamy whites and romantic silhouettes. And because ‘comfort’ is a theme here, this helps make any outfit look cozy and polished simultaneously.
If you’re looking for something a bit more cropped/less oversized, you cannot beat the color, shape, and price of this one by Cos*. I would have included it in the list, if this was not a capsule post.

A quick note on my MessyWeekend Liv Sunglasses (the ones featured here) — they are AMAZING. I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy with a gifted collaboration before. They feel such high quality (as high quality as my Gucci sunglasses, if not even higher). And the fit is phenomenal. Honestly, I can’t recommend MessyWeekend sunglasses enough.
