Well. That was unexpected. Suddenly it’s May 2nd and I haven’t posted on this glorious beast in 1 month and 1 day, which feels very Gawain and the Greene Knight of me. (Obscure Medieval English lit reference in opening line? Check. Yeppers: I’m back!).
This has been my longest absence from the blog since it’s inception. Heck, I even moved to a new country and still managed to post more frequently. So, the question you are all dying to have answered, perched on the edge of your seat with bated breath: what on Earth happened to you, Wolf & Stag?
Life Update: An Unexpected Blogging Holiday
This ‘update’ is kind of an obvious one, guys. I took a holiday. As I have referenced above, a very unexpected blogging holiday, because I genuinely had no plan to not post on here for over a month. It just sort of… happened. I wish I had more intention to that statement, but frankly, I can only give the age-old excuse of limitless uses: life just got really busy. God, that’s so lame. But it’s true.
Firstly, the beginning of April saw us have a mad-dash to prepare for our East Coast excursion. It began with the most fabulous trip to Charleston (more on that soon!) and ended with a funeral and some time with family. Not the best of circumstances, obviously.
And then we came back, and mountains of laundry (did I mention lame?), and suddenly April drew to a close, and my beautiful blog sat here, untouched and unloved.
There’s a strange phenomenon that happens to me when I take an unexpected break, like this. When I’ve gone away from something just that bit too long, I end up, well, stuck. Afraid, even. To go back, dust off the cobwebs, and try to find my ‘groove’ again. It all feels so insurmountable, and so I do what every Grown Ass Adult should do and simply avoid it like the plague.
Sigh. Life is tough sometimes, isn’t it? The point is, I hope some or all of you can relate to this. I’d love to hear your stories of similar experiences, and how you managed to get back into the swing of things.
Life Update: Taking Stock of Wolf & Stag
Now that I’m easing myself back into blogging again, I’ve been thinking more about, well, blogging. Taking stock of not just my blogging career, but what the blog means to its audience. What am I hoping to get out of it — and give to you?
The problem, though, is that I’m not sure how exactly I’m helping you lovely lot. Why do you come here? Do you feel enticed to come here? I initially thought (hoped) in the ‘informative vs. entertaining’ debate of blogs, I provided the latter. Posts such as my take on missing America, terrible Christmas films and bread & butter all have a thread of (attempted) humour.
And as I hope, reading about my life mishaps and failures through a lens of sardonic wit is kind of funny, right? Right? *Squashes a cricket with the heel of her boot*
But, the more I think about it, the more I realize my blog flits somewhere in-between. Maybe that’s okay. But maybe…maybe, it needs to offer something more.
I’m not saying that the Wolf & Stag you know and love will suddenly change and become something else: oh I don’t know, a wedding blog discussing the ever-important Annoyances of Required Table Linens (which, secretly, I want to write about, because I bloody hate table linens).
But, the type of content you’ve seen on here — indie labels, cruelty-free beauty, sustainable style, capsule travel — will begin to focus. I’m bubbling with ideas that I can’t wait to share with you all. New types of content, some freebies and giveaways, easier-to-use online tools. OVERWHELMING. But exciting. And don’t worry, all 2 of my loyal readers: I plan on still writing with my same mock-thy-self “don’t take life too seriously” way.
All I have to say is: watch this space!
But first — maybe I should stop watching reruns of Bake Off while playing sudoku. That would probably help.
