Hello, my name is Eire, and I’m a sales-shop-fanatic. Prior to starting the blog, I pretty much only ever bought sale items. I was just never incentivized to buy anything full price, because (especially on the high street) nearly everything eventually goes on sale. With the blog, though, I’ve quickly realised that my nab-a-bargain sale items often means items selling out — fast. Not so great when I’m trying to share with you my favourite outfit items to be had! I’ve since had to rethink my strategy, making sure most pieces I feature on the blog are readily available (most of the time, at least).
I now am a lot more focused when buying sale things. Pyjamas, beauty products, travel accessories, leather goods, designer items and anything else I could see lasting well into future seasons — these are what I focus on buying in the sales now. I often will prepare a list before Christmas of the things I’ve researched and want to own, which helps to keep my splurge-self under control (and let’s be real, she needs an actual restraining order).
Keeping this strategy in mind, the places I tend to find the best sale bargains are Very Exclusive (they have the best high-end deals, by far), Whistles (for quality and classic items to last many seasons), Selfridges (for a variety of independent brands on offer), Feel Unique (for beauty), Matches Fashion//The Outnet (for a new handbag, if I can afford it!) — in addition to the usual higher-end of the high street.
Particularly when it comes to interiors and beauty, the same items often repeat, and therefore you can manage to get the same stuff you would normally but at a huge discount. Stag and I managed to do this with our West Elm coffee table (they have amazing sales), and we bought all of our sheets from The White Company this way.
My other suggestion? Use the sale time to try out some local, independent brands. I just nabbed this laptop tote from London-based company Knomo for £30 — reduced from £99!
I’ve been trying to buy from ethical or eco-conscious brands, as a way to reduce my environmental impact (small steps, but I’d like to think every little counts). Matt & Nat are a brand I just discovered, and they have incredibly chic leather bags and accessories (many are 30% off right now). Seasalt is another one I love for rain gear and chunky knits.
