Since deciding I want to take Wolf & Stag in a more sustainable-led direction, it feels as though my life has been consumed with discovering new. New brands that are either fair trade or kind to the environment (or, ideally, both).Writing round-ups of great indie labels, or pointing you lovely lot towards high-quality investment pieces to own.
But, really, there’s a much more obvious and easy method. What’s the best way to consume less, save more and still look fab? Find versatile pieces. Simples.
I’m sure you’re wondering: what the heck are you talking about? Well, remember all those Teen Bop and Glamazon and who-whats-it magazines you read as a young teen that pushed (*insert smug lady voice*), “This is the perrrrfect blazer to take you from day to night!” As an impressionable youngling, I assumed that my Insanely Cool & Glam Adult Life would be chock-filled with day-to-night instances. Power suit in the day, dazzling bond-girl by night, all with the cunning use of earrings.
Little did Little Eire know that 1. Her life would mostly involve eating peanut butter out of the jar at her desk alone, at home and 2. She would, with quite certainty, never need an ensemble to go from ‘day to night.’
But, mockery aside, those magazines of our youth were on to something. Versatile pieces in your wardrobe — the ones that can help you be both casual and polished at the same time — really are useful. My favourite versatile pieces are without-a-doubt this Radley London hobo bag and the Reformation dress I’m wearing in this shoot.
Elevated details — like soft-to-the-touch suede, elegant netural color and gold hardware — help lift what would otherwise be a boho-chic fringe bag. The combination of all these elements makes this bag one of the most versatile pieces in my entire wardrobe. As beautiful with jeans and a tee for casual lunch as it is with heels and a frock for a wedding, I have been toting this guy with me non-stop since receiving it.
Can we also talk about the fact that Holy Mother of Panic At The Disco I’m Wearing a DRESS? FOR FUNSIES?
There was once a time when I said to myself: “You know what, Eire? You wear jeans every single day. Maybe it’s time to mix it up a bit.” That time turned into this blog post, when I wore linen trousers and my whole world was changed. Since then — in a move that will surprise absolutely no one — I’ve gone back to Old Faithful, wearing nothing but jeans-and-a-tee daily. Part of the problem is me, and part of the problem is ultra-casual San Francisco. WHY DOES EVERYONE WEAR ATHLEISURE ALL THE TIME YOU’RE NOT WORKING OUT. #Rantover
But man, did I miss having a reason to get dressed up. Now, having finally found the perfect outfit that mixes dressy and casual, what I’ve discovered is this: it is worth taking time to find the right pieces. Fit is so important, as is finding styles that you know will work for you in multiple outfits. Once you nail the dressy-meets-casual look, you’ve found a winner.
A whole other blog post on this very topic is coming soon — so stay tuned!
