There’s something about Spring. That peek of sunshine, coming out of crisp cloud, days lengthening and buds blossoming and suddenly, things don’t seem so dreary, do they? The world full of promise, a fresh start just around the bend, and the thought of bright colors fill you with joy. This, my friends, is how cranky ol’ ‘Grey is the New Black’ me comes out of her monochrome shell. I blame the flowers.
I will say, this new affinity for bright colors in my wardrobe is not entirely the fault of Spring. If you read my Springtime in California post, you’ll see I’m rocking my favourite black midi dress quite happily. No, really, it’s the result of California, and it’s seemingly never-ending sunshine that gives me a constant case of FOMO.
So yes, rather than my usual darks, my head has been filled with dreams of pinks as soft as clouds, golden saffron yellows and bright-and-bold reds, topped off with wicker bags and a lick of bronze on the legs. You know, if my life consisted of me 25 lbs lighter and I spent my days on the beach.
It’s such a typical depart from what I’m normally drawn to — but I’m embracing this penchant for bright colors, head-on.
Case in point: this red top from H&M, which admittedly is the least ‘sustainable fashion’ buy I could have made (washed it once, and it’s awful). But honestly? I can’t afford my dream Realisation Par one right now. My budget is decisively fast-fashion these days, although I dream of a totally sustainable closet.
However, I’m saving up to next get this Christy Dawn dress, this Reformation dress* and perhaps even a Gucci floral bandana from Tradesey. Lately, I’ve been loving the thought of wearing silk scarves in my hair or tied around my basket bags, adding a touch of 70’s chic to my (jeans and tee/nonexistent) style.
What’s the thing you’re most coveting for Spring?
