My first beauty review! Today I’ll be reviewing the beautifully-packaged, wonderfully moisturizing Oskia Nutri-Active Day Cream. Head to the bottom of this post to get the final scores for “The 4 P’s” (packaging, product, price, performance), and to see the answer to the question you will most want to know: should I buy this cream?
I can’t even stress the sheer amount of research I do whenever I buy a beauty product. My hope is to use this ‘beauty knowledge’ (because who needs knowledge about history, current affairs or math? NO ONE) to help those of you, like me, whom must have hours of research behind the belt before making any purchase.
I realise that this is a very expensive day cream. Like taxi-riding-celebrity-earning-Jay-Z-glam-life kind of expensive. I happened to buy this in the Space NK sale, where it miraculously went down to £26 for a limited time. I think it’s because I have an older edition in a glass bottle, but who knows!
However, I do believe that some beauty products are worth splurging for, and so I wanted to include this product review, as it is really that good. The reviews for this are excellent across the board, which is why I bought it in the first place. See below for my individual reviews of packaging, product, price and performance, and see the very bottom for all of this information in one handy summary.
For reference, I have normal/combination skin, and my biggest skin concerns are large pores (PREACH) and occasional flaky skin. I’ve been using the Oskia Nutri-Active Day Cream for about 2-3 months.
Packaging
Clean, white, minimal and expensive looking. In a word: goooorrrrgeeoouusssss. I dream of the days I can fill up my beauty cabinet with all Oskia products and dedicate an entire Instagram account to said beauty cabinet. It’s in a pump, which according to Beautipedia Reviews is the optimum way to store beauty products. As I said above, mine came in a glass pump, whereas I think the newer versions come in a plastic container/pump. This should actually help retain the potency of the active ingredients and keep it working longer.
Product
This day cream was the winner of the Best Moisturizer Award in the Natural Beauty Awards: a huge double thumbs up in my book, for being both good and natural. This cream has a slightly thick consistency, but it doesn’t feel thick at all. In fact, it’s actually quite light (it’s been great for summer). As one Cult Beauty reviewer so eloquently wrote:”Great product for moisturising dry/combination skin, is rich but not too heavy. I love using this underneath makeup as it makes a good base and does not take long to absorb into the skin.” Amen, Kathy S, amen.
I will also point out that this moisturizer does not have SPF in it. I actually see this as a positive, as I’d rather layer this myself. but bear this in mind if you like your moisturizers with SPF.
Price
See my Jay Z comment above. £60 for 40ml, which isn’t that bad actually if you think about it. However, I generally do not have £60 to spend on shoes – let alone daily moisturizer – so I’d be lying if I said I could afford to repurchase this time-after-time. However, for a beauty splurge, you actually do get a fair amount of product for price.
Performance
This day cream really is the perfect balance between moisturizing and light, nourishing and cooling, matte but with a glow. As the review above says, it’s great under makeup, as it provides a smooth base and absorbs quickly. I really can’t fault the performance. However – and perhaps to many beauty editors’ chagrin – a face moisturizer is, well, just a face moisturizer, amiright? I feel like, in the world of beauty, there are bad face creams, and there are ones that actually do what they say they’ll do. Above-and-beyond face creams are like unicorns.
